Valiant load-balancing and a glimpse beyond

Core networks have been working on the same principles for decades without
major modifications. Recent research developments suggest a significant
change in the way in which backbone routing should work: Load-balancing
traffic across many backbone routers using randomised algorithms has been
shown to be efficiently able to handle highly variable traffic where
traditional routing schemes cannot compete. The first part of the talk
will explore novel, randomised load-balancing algorithms which yield better
performance in terms of delay and stability than previously known
approaches. The second part will give a first insight into the performance
of randomised load-balancing in practice.
