The next talk in the UCL EE seminar series is on 25th January 2013 (this
Friday) at 16:00 in GS/102. The speaker is our own Lorenzo Saino.

FNSS: A Toolchain for Simplifying Network Simulation Setup

Abstract:
Arguably, one of the most cumbersome and error-prone tasks required to
run a network simulation is the setup of a fully configured network
topology and its deployment in the target simulator. This process
includes selecting a suitable topology, provision it with all required
parameters (such as link capacities, weights and latencies), allocate
and configure traffic endpoints, assign request rates to traffic sources
or generate traffic matrices and, finally, deploy the complete network
configuration in the target simulator.

A large number of tools exist to address some of these tasks. However,
all of them exhibit some shortcomings. For example, some tools do not
provide algorithms for provisioning link capacities, weights, delays and
buffers, while others only support a specific simulator. Because of this
situation, a user often needs to either integrate heterogeneous software
components or implement the desired features by himself/herself, both of
which are time-consuming and error-prone.

To address these issues, I will present in this talk the Fast Network
Simulation Setup (FNSS) toolchain. It provides capabilities for parsing
topologies from datasets or generating them synthetically, assign
desired configuration parameters and generate traffic matrices or event
schedules. It also provides APIs for a number of programming languages
and network simulators to easily deploy the configured network topology
in the target simulator.
