Stochastic analysis of a congestion control mechanism with QoS
constraints and QoS negotiation algorithms for dependable
communication systems

With the rapid development of the Internet, Quality of Service (QoS)
has become one of the most important issues in present networks,
enabling different types of traffic to satisfy specified QoS
constraints. This talk will present discrete-time stochastic
modelling analysis of a congestion control mechanism for Internet
traffic and a new approach for constraining end-to-end delay to a
specified value. The feasibility of the system is examined using
both theoretical analysis and simulation. Additionally, a case study
application of the QoS negotiation framework for dependable
communication systems to an industrially inspired, real-time system
emulator will be presented.
Dr. Guan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science
at Loughborough University. Her research interests focus on
performance modelling/evaluation of heterogeneous computer networks,
QoS analysis and enhancements, mobile computing and wireless sensor
networks. She has published over 70 journal and conference papers
and she has been serving as guest editors for several international
journals, such as those published by Elsevier and Springer. She has
served on program committees over 20 international
conferences/workshops, including co-chairs and publicity chairs. She
was awarded the British Federation of Women Graduates Foundation
Main Grant during her PhD. She successfully bid for research capital
investment fund, BAE PV project and British Council Treaty of
Windsor Programme. She held two EPSRC CASE awards and one EngD
projects in collaboration with BAE Systems. She recently received a
prestigious award as Royal Society Industry Fellow and an EPSRC
funded knowledge transfer project.
