 fyi, I expect that vic will print an error when the problem occurs.  On
 OSX or Linux, you'll see this in the shell you started it from.  On
 Windows, you can see these messages using DebugView
 (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/debugview.mspx).
