we did a lot of experiment over umts and hsdpa. we found that bic/cubic,
newreno and westwood+ get similar results except for the fact that tcp
westwood provides shorter delays.

you should always consider  reverse traffic since it has a strong impact on
tcp behaviour becasue  bandwidth on reverse path is shared   with ack.
