Title: X-Factor 2010 & Overload Control in a Service Provider Network

Abstract

The seminar provides a Service Provider (SP) perspective on the phenomena
of a Mass Calling Event (MCE). Giving overview of: what is an MCE, why it
gives rise to overload, approaches to overload control/mitigation,
efficacy of different approaches/mechanisms and suggesting possible
area(s) of investigation to bring about improvements. Making particular
reference to X-Factor 2010, the last major Televote MCE in the UK.

Bio

Paul Beaumont is Voice Network Architect at Sky. He has worked in the
telecommunications industry for more decades than he cares to mention.
Currently he is working towards an EngD at UCL.
